Common Spinal Conditions

Every patient referred to the University of Rochester Spine Center will undergo an initial consultation with one of our spine specialists. During this initial visit, a history and physical exam will be performed and x-rays, MRIs and other studies reviewed. The diagnosis or list of possible diagnoses will be reviewed with the patient. Further studies may be ordered and/or treatments may be recommended based on this initial evaluation. Our spine specialists are experts at the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of spinal conditions, the most common of which include the following:

  • Radiculopathy (sciatica or pinched nerve)

  • Herniated Disc (bulging, protruding or ruptured disc)

  • Spinal Stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal

  • Spondylolisthesis (a slip or misalignment in the spine)

  • Severe Degenerative Disc Disease (severe arthritis of the back)

  • Sacroiliac Joint Syndrome (arthritis of the spine/pelvis junction)

  • Spinal Fractures (broken spine)

  • Spinal Tumors (cancer of the spine)

  • Spinal Infections (bacteria in the spine)

  • Scoliosis (abnormal curvature of the spine)

  • Pediatric Spinal Conditions (spinal conditions in children).
