Treatment Options

The University of Rochester Spine Center offers only those traditional and cutting edge treatments options that have proven to be effective by the most highly regarded peer reviewed medical literature. This may include conservative treatments, physical rehabilitation, interventional procedures, and minimally invasive as well as complex surgery.

Conservative

The vast majority of symptoms related to spinal conditions can be treated conservatively with relative rest, education, activity and/or work modification, bracing, medication and/or active physical rehabilitation. These measures are almost always incorporated into the treatment program of spinal conditions as they empower patients to be proactive with acute management and can be the crucial in achieving long-term success.

Interventional Spinal Procedures

X-ray guided diagnosis specific spine injections may be performed to resolve inflammation and swelling on a specific spine structure and allow some of the body's own healing mechanisms to repair structural abnormalities. Click to download our Guide to Spinal Procedures.

Minimally Invasive Surgical Procedures

X-ray guided and/or minimally invasive surgical procedures can be performed to remove portions of herniated discs, cement fractures, and heat internally torn and disrupted discs.

Complex Spinal Surgery

The most basic to the most complex and cutting edge spine surgeries are performed at all spinal levels for every different type of spinal condition.
